PRESS STATEMENT: NDC Welcomes Arrest of Suspects Over Obuoffia Attack, Demands Full Prosecution

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in Enugu State under the leadership of our Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, and Governorship Candidate, Sir Christian Chinyeaka Ohaa, welcomes the arrest of Igwe Obiora Igwesi, Hon. Uchenna Sunday A. Igwesi (USA Igwesi), and eight other suspects in connection with the violent attack on our ward meeting at Ihuani Awkunanaw, Obuoffia, on 12th September 2026.



We commend the Inspector-General of Police for ordering the arrests and the detectives of Zone 13 Command for carrying out the operation on 22 September, 2026. *We learnt that those arrested are presently on bail as investigation continues.* This development is a positive step towards justice for our members who sustained gunshot injuries during the unprovoked attack.


However, arrest is only the beginning. We demand that the case be thoroughly investigated and diligently prosecuted to its logical conclusion. Those found culpable must face the full weight of the law. Anything short of this will amount to a failure of justice.


The NDC remains a peaceful and non-violent political party. We will never encourage or engage in violence. At the same time, we will not run away from intimidation or allow our members to be attacked with impunity.


Reacting to the development, Sir Christian Chinyeaka Ohaa said:


*“I encourage all our supporters to remain firm and steadfast. Victory is certain. I also call on other political players to resist the urge to attack the party and candidates preferred by Ndi Enugu. The people have made their choice clear. Let us all support Mr. Peter Obi’s commitment to move Nigeria from consumption to production. That same vision of production, competence, and prosperity is what I will ensure happens in Enugu State once elected as Governor.”*


Sir Christian Chinyeaka Ohaa and Mr. Peter Obi remain united in the mission to rescue Enugu State and Nigeria through integrity, competence, and the rule of law.


We call on the security agencies to remain professional and thorough in this matter. Justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done.
