Ohaa Condemns Assault on Peter Obi in Benue, Says Political Differences Must Not Override Humanity

 ENUGU, ENUGU STATE — The NDC Governorship Candidate for Enugu State, Sir Chinyeaka Christian Ohaa (Odalije), has strongly condemned the reported assault and obstruction of the NDC Presidential Candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, during his visit to the Yelewata community in Benue State.


In a statement issued by his Spokesperson/Media Aide, Ohaa described the incident as deeply unfortunate and unacceptable, particularly given that Peter Obi was in Yelewata to express solidarity with victims and families affected by the devastating attack that reportedly claimed over 270 lives.


Ohaa said that visiting a community mourning the loss of its people should be regarded as an act of compassion and solidarity rather than an occasion for political hostility.


According to him, political differences must never be allowed to override human compassion, dignity and the sanctity of human life.


“Whatever our political differences may be, there must always be room for humanity. A visit to a community that has suffered such a devastating loss should unite us in grief and compassion, not become an avenue for confrontation or violence,” Ohaa stated.


He expressed concern that the reported treatment of Peter Obi during the visit could further deepen political tensions at a time when Nigerians need responsible leadership, dialogue and peaceful engagement.


Ohaa stressed that political disagreements are legitimate in a democracy, but this must be expressed through peaceful and lawful means rather than intimidation, harassment or physical confrontation.


He commended Peter Obi for showing solidarity with the people of Yelewata and urged Nigerians, political parties and their supporters to resist actions capable of escalating tensions or dividing communities.


The NDC governorship candidate further called on relevant authorities to ensure that citizens, political leaders and visitors are adequately protected, regardless of their political affiliations.


He said the tragedy in Yelewata should serve as a reminder that human life is greater than politics, urging all leaders to place compassion, peace, justice and the security of Nigerians above partisan interests.


Ohaa extended his sympathy to the families who lost loved ones in the Yelewata tragedy and prayed for the strength and healing of the affected community.
