Ohaa Answers DSS Invitation, Says “The People Must Come First

ENUGU, ENUGU STATE  Sir Chinyeaka Christian Ohaa, the NDC Governorship Candidate for Enugu State, has honoured an invitation by the Department of State Services (DSS) following his visit to Parklane Hospital in Enugu last Sunday.

Ohaa, who responded to the invitation on Thursday, said he chose to honour the invitation because his actions and advocacy are driven by the welfare and interests of the people of Enugu State.

According to him, the central issue remains the need for a healthcare system where the lives, dignity and wellbeing of citizens are given the highest priority.

“The people must come first — their health, their dignity, their lives and their future.”

Ohaa's visit to Parklane Hospital had followed reports concerning accident victims and the state of healthcare services at the facility amid the ongoing industrial action by resident doctors.

The DSS invitation, according to information available to the NDC candidate, followed a petition reportedly submitted by the Enugu State Government alleging that he entered the hospital premises without authorisation.

The development has generated political discussion, with Ohaa's camp questioning why a visit by a governorship candidate to a public hospital to identify with accident victims and raise concerns about healthcare delivery should result in a security invitation.

Ohaa's supporters argue that his visit was motivated by humanitarian concerns and a desire to draw attention to the difficulties being faced by residents seeking medical attention.

They further contend that the controversy surrounding the visit has brought renewed attention to the prolonged disruption of healthcare services occasioned by the industrial action involving resident doctors.

However, Ohaa said his interaction with DSS officials was cordial, describing the officers he met as polite, professional and courteous throughout the engagement.

The NDC candidate expressed confidence in the capacity of the security agency to confront the security challenges facing Enugu State, while urging the state government to provide effective leadership and fully play its role in the state's security architecture.

Ohaa maintained that his commitment to speaking on issues affecting ordinary citizens would not be weakened by the invitation.

He said his intervention was not about seeking personal advantage but about standing with citizens who require government to protect their lives, provide quality healthcare and uphold their dignity.

He reiterated that the people of Enugu deserve a healthcare system that places human life above political considerations.

“For the mother who needs care, the child who needs treatment, the family that cannot afford to lose a loved one, and every Enugu citizen who deserves accessible and functional healthcare, the people must come first,” Ohaa said.

He pledged to continue using his voice to draw attention to issues affecting the people of the state, insisting that public leadership must ultimately be measured by its impact on the lives and wellbeing of citizens.
