OFFICIAL STATEMENT: Office of the Media Aide to Sir Christian Chinyeaka Ohaa, NDC Governorship Candidate, Enugu State.

Yesterday, I visited the hospital where our party members who were shot during a politically motivated attack at Ihuani Awkunanaw, Obuofia, Nkanu West LGA, Enugu state, on Saturday, 12/09/26, are receiving treatment. What I saw was deeply painful and heartbreaking.

The scale of the violence inflicted on peaceful NDC members is far more severe than earlier reported. *But for devine intervention, the known gunmen aimed at mass murder.*



Below is the current medical situation of the victims as at the time of my visit:


1) Onovo Donald, Ward Councillor – shot in the head, neck, leg and hand. Scan shows a total of 5 bullets in his body.  


2) Maduka Ngene – shot in the right hand.  


3) Ogbodo Gloria – shot in the right breast and hand. She is still carrying 1 bullet in the breast.  


4) Obinna Owoh – shot in both legs, both hands and the chest. Scan shows a total of 6 bullets in his body.  


5) Ugwu Nnaemeka – shot in the leg, hand and right eye. He is still carrying the bullets in his body.  


6) Nwagbara Chinonso – shot all over his body, mostly at the back. He is carrying 9 bullets in his body.  


7) Onovo Victor – shot directly in the stomach with multiple bullets. 6 bullets were removed during surgery.  


8) Madueke Ngene, Ward Chairman – shot in the chest, waist and hand. He is still carrying 3 bullets in his body.


Apart from Onovo Victor, who has undergone surgery which lasted over 4 hours, the remaining victims with bullets in their bodies are billed for surgery in the coming days as the Doctors deem fit.


We are glad to report that the victims are receiving maximum medical care and are being fully supported by families and party faithfuls who have stood solidly with them since the attack.


It is now three days since this dastardly attack. Neither the Governor of Enugu State, Mr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, nor the Chairman of Nkanu West Local Government Area, Mr John Chukwuma Ogbodo, has issued any official statement on the incident. The police released a statement, yet not a single person has been arrested.


This silence and inaction are unacceptable. It only strengthens the suspicion of many that those responsible for this attack are being shielded by government officials.


Section 215(4) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) makes the Governor of a state the Chief Security Officer of the State. It provides that the Commissioner of Police shall comply with the directions of the Governor with respect to the maintaining and securing of public safety and public order within the State.


Reacting to the situation, Sir Christian Chinyeaka Ohaa said: "The sight of our members lying in hospital beds with bullets lodged in their bodies is a painful reminder of the growing culture of political violence in our state. No Nigerian should be shot or injured for attending a peaceful political meeting. I call on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to take decisive action on this matter to restore faith in our democracy, and ensure that justice is served. We will not be intimidated. We will continue our peaceful campaign until the will of Ndi Enugu prevails.


We urge all well-meaning Nigerians to rise up and demand that those in authority do the needful by immediately identifying, arresting, and prosecuting the culprits and their sponsors."


Sir Christian Chinyeaka Ohaa and the entire NDC family in Enugu State remain resolute. Justice must be done.

ENUGU MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT BANS TRAFFIC TASKFORCE FROM ALL FEDERAL HIGHWAYS.
