NDC MEETING ATTACK: Ohaa Supporters Allege APC Thugs Invaded Meeting in Obuofia, Several Injured



ENUGU, ENUGU STATE — Tension erupted today at Obuofia, Awkunanaw, Nkanu West Local Government Area of Enugu state, the hometown of NDC Governorship Candidate Sir Chinyeaka Christian Ohaa, following an alleged violent attack during an NDC meeting.


According to members of the NDC, suspected APC political thugs allegedly stormed the meeting venue at Ihuani Awkunanaw, and attacked participants, leaving several party members, including women and youths, with serious injuries.


The victims reportedly included Hon. Donald Onovo Ekene,  Ngene Godwin madueke,

Ogbodo Gloria,

 Onovo Victor,  Maduabuchi,

Ugwu, Nnaemeka Nelson, 

Chinonso Nwagbara,

Obinna Daniel Owo, who, according to party members, sustained severe gun shot injuries, and is currently receiving medical attention alongside several others.


NDC members at the scene alleged that the attackers were led by the one Mr. Odogwu, a Senior Special Assistant to Nkanu West Council Chairman, Mr. John Chukwuma Ogbodo. One of the injured was seen in a video saying that one of the masterminds of the attack was one Hon. USA Igwesi, and accused them of attempting to disrupt the meeting and cause serious harm to party members. The allegation has not been independently verified, and Hon. USA Igwesi nor the Council Chairman has not publicly responded to the accusation.


The incident has sparked outrage among NDC supporters, who described the alleged attack as a dangerous escalation of political violence ahead of the 2027 elections.


Speaking on the development, party members demanded a thorough investigation and called on the security agencies to identify and prosecute anyone found responsible for the violence.


“Political disagreement should never become a licence to attack, injure or intimidate citizens,” one elderly party member said, urging all political actors in Enugu State to embrace peaceful democratic engagement.

The NDC also appealed to its members to remain calm and law-abiding while calling for adequate protection for political meetings and gatherings across the state.


The development underscores growing concerns about political violence and the need for security agencies to ensure that every political party and its supporters can organise, campaign and participate in democratic activities without fear of intimidation or physical attack.
