Enugu Govt Drags Sir Chinyeaka Ohaa TO DSS: Weaponizing Security Agencies To Cover Up A Dying Healthcare System

There is a striking tragedy in watching an administration lose its moral compass in real-time. When governance collapses entirely, it reverts to farce, and that is the exact state of affairs in Enugu today.

Our state currently sits in the quiet grip of systemic paralysis. The judiciary, the ultimate sanctuary of justice, is now shut down following an industrial strike embarked upon by workers under the umbrella of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Enugu State Branch, on September 10, 2026, effectively bringing the entire court system in the state to a standstill.

The reason? The alleged wilful refusal of Governor Peter Mbah’s administration to fulfil its own part of the bargain in implementing the Consolidated Judiciary Salary Structure (CONJUS). Resident doctors, the critical line of defense between life and death, are also on strike due to dismal living conditions and poor remuneration. ESUT lecturers stand on the precipice of industrial action. The fundamental pillars of our society are crumbling simultaneously, leaving ndi Enugu stranded in an administrative vacuum.

Yet, as the state burns, the government’s priority is neither reconciliation nor reform. Its priority is attempting to intimidate the man who dared to point out that the house is on fire.

Following the horrific Ugwu Onyeama accident on 6th of September, the NDC Governorship Candidate, Sir Chinyeaka Ohaa, visited the ESUT Teaching Hospital (Parklane) out of pure civic responsibility. What he uncovered was staggering, abandoned wards, unlit corridors where health workers are forced to navigate by the faint glow of rechargeable lanterns, and accident victims turned away because the facility has been allowed to rot.

The government’s response to this exposure was not remorse, nor was it swift corrective action. Instead, they dispatched frantic petitions to the Department of State Services (DSS), claiming Sir Ohaa "broke into" a public hospital. What a government. What an absolute comedy of an allegation. 

Consider the sheer desperation of that narrative. A public figure visits a public medical facility to assess public welfare, and the state’s sole reaction is to run to the DSS to frame his presence as a break-in. They are not angry that the health system is broken, they are furious that the public was forced to look at the wreckage.

We must ask the hard questions: Where is the massive tax revenue squeezed daily from the poorest of the poor in Enugu? Where is the revenue extracted from struggling market women, small business owners, and everyday families? It is clearly not paying doctors, powering emergency rooms, or keeping our courts open. 

No water in the pipe after close to 4 years in office. The most visible achievement of this administration has been the systematic impoverishment of its own citizens, thinly veiled behind billboards and empty propaganda.

A government that fights the truth harder than it fights human suffering has already failed its people. Sir Chinyeaka Ohaa will not be silenced by frivolous petitions to security agencies, nor will Ndi Enugu be distracted by cheap political theatre while their institutions collapse.

The rot inside Parklane Hospital is a reflection of the leadership in Government House, and Ndi Enugu deserves far better.
