HIGH COURT JUDGMENT REAFFIRMS NDC NATIONAL LEADERSHIP POSITION: DR. JOHNPAUL ANIH IS NOT RECOGNIZED BY THE PARTY

The Enugu State Chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, (NDC) , wishes to set the records straight and bring clarity to members of our great party, Enugu State political stakeholders, and the general public, regarding persistent and deliberate attempts to misrepresent the legal and political position on the leadership of the NDC in Enugu State.

A careful study of the Certified True Copy of the judgment delivered by the High Court of Enugu State in Suit No. E/484/2026 shows that the court held that the issues raised before it bordered on the internal affairs and leadership of a political party. Consequently, the court declined jurisdiction in accordance with settled law and the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2022.

The effect of this pronouncement is clear:

Nothing in the judgment alters or overturns the consistent position of the National Leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, which has repeatedly disowned Dr. Johnpaul Anih and maintained that he is neither recognized nor authorized to act on behalf of the party in Enugu State or in any other capacity.

Indeed, this is not the first time the National Headquarters has stated its position. On several occasions, the National Working Committee, NWC, through official public statements widely reported in the national media, categorically dissociated the party from Dr. Johnpaul Anih.

In one such publication, the National Headquarters unequivocally declared that Dr. Johnpaul Anih is neither the Enugu State Chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress nor authorized to represent the party in any capacity whatsoever. The party further warned members of the public that anyone dealing with him on behalf of the NDC does so entirely at his or her own risk.

The National Leadership also publicly identified the authentic officers and committees recognized by the party and advised members, aspirants, stakeholders, and the general public to disregard any contrary claims or representations made by persons not recognized by the party. The Chairman and secretary of the party in Enugu State recognised by the party leadership is Engr Ibuchukwu Obeta and Hon. Nebo Chukwujekwu respectively.

Therefore, the High Court judgment has not changed the legal or political reality. Rather, it reinforces the long-standing position that matters relating to party leadership and congresses remain within the domestic affairs of the party, and that the National Leadership remains the competent authority to determine who it recognizes as its officials.

It is therefore misleading and intellectually dishonest for anyone to portray the judgment as conferring legitimacy or official recognition where none exists.

Members of the party, supporters, political stakeholders, and the general public are urged to disregard every false narrative, propaganda, or deliberate distortion intended to create the impression that the judgment validates claims that have long been rejected by the National Leadership of the Nigeria Democratic Congress.

The Nigeria Democratic Congress, Enugu State Chapter, remains firmly committed to constitutional order, internal democracy, the rule of law, and respect for its duly constituted organs. The party will continue to resist every attempt to mislead the public or undermine its lawful structures through misinformation and false propaganda.

Signed:

Hon. Nebo chukwujekwu Emmanuel

Secretary

Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC

Enugu State Chapter
