The People's Clarion Call: Dr. John Nwokeabia Urged to Lead Enugu in 2027

The memory of the Labour Party’s stunning near-victory in the 2023 Enugu gubernatorial election remains fresh, and the focus is now squarely on the man considered the silent architect of that political earthquake: Dr. John Nwokeabia, the former deputy governorship candidate. His formidable influence and aura of unwavering competence that "intimidating quality" of quiet authorityare now fueling a massive, cross-sectoral movement urgently calling for him to contest the 2027 Governorship race.

The most recent vocal contingent is the Forum for Christian Elders in Enugu State, whose formidable structure cut across hundreds of churches in the state.  They see him as the moral anchor needed to rescue the state. However, the clarion call extends far beyond the faith community, now including a robust coalition of aggrieved and hopeful groups:

 


The Enugu Progressive Traders Union (EPTU), representing thousands of small-to-medium business owners, has issued a public appeal, citing his strong anti-taxation stance. They are desperate for an end to the excessive taxation that crippled their enterprises, viewing him as the only leader capable of instituting a business-friendly environment.

The Rural Development Action Coalition (RDAC), comprising over 50 community youth groups from the neglected hinterlands, demands his candidacy. They emphasize his articulate vision for inclusive governance, arguing that his leadership is essential to reverse the pervasive absence of rural development and provide basic amenities.

 A newly formed non-partisan group, Enugu Water Rights Advocates (EWRA), supported by key academic figures, insists he must run to address the persistent lack of potable water. 

They highlight his detailed commitment to sustainable solutions, a necessity for the health and dignity of countless citizens.

Significantly, a caucus of Labour Party grassroots mobilisers who were instrumental in the 2023 performance have reportedly approached him, stressing that his leadership is the key to finally securing the mandate the party narrowly missed.


This unprecedented multi-group urgency stems from the conviction that Dr. Nwokeabia's blend of integrity and formidable political will offers the clearest path to resolving the state's deep-seated issues. His 2023 impact has made him the consensus choice of those seeking tangible change, transforming his intimidating quality into the beacon of leadership Enugu State desperately seeks for 2027.
