UMUATUGBUOMA AKEGBE UGWU COMMUNITY PROTESTS THE ACTIVITIES OF LAND GRABBERS USING THE NAME OF ENUGU STATE GOVERNMENT.

 


Five villages of Umuatugbuoma Akegbe Ugwu Autonomous community which include  Umuegboaro,Umuewoachime, Umugwuaro, Umude and Umuejimugwu on Saturday,6th June 2024 staged a peaceful protest against the  attempts by dubious people hiding under the name of Enugu State Government to take their homestead  ancestral land at Akpasha in Akegbe Ugwu Awkunanaw.

The protesters who conducted themselves peacefully carried different placards some of which read,"OUR LAND IS NOT FOR GRABBERS", "GOV MBA IS A FRIEND OF UMUATUGBUOMA", " POLITICAL TRICK-STARS USE ENUGU GOVT'S  NAME TO CORNER PEOPLE'S LANDS"," WE VOTED FOR OUR MAN BARR MBA".


The spokesman of the group ,Chief Ezekiel Ogbodo,who are in their hundreds decried a situation where a handful of individuals are using names of people in Government to threaten their existence since the taking of the said lands through their ploy will make their children homeless.He said that that the land grabbers use His Excellency,Barr Peter Mba's name to intimidate and take  people' lands.


Chief Ezikel narrated that they, firstly, demanded for an access road into Chiukwu area of Amechi-Uno which has had an access road  since the 60s which has served and  still serving the Chiukwu Secondary  school, the Federal School of Statistics and the people of Amechi -Uno where His Excellency,Senator Jim Nwobodo hails from.He said that the demand for another access road, that would cut through the homes of and land the five villages of Umuatugbuoma, is a ploy by overzealous poltical actors to humiliate his people of Umuatugbuoma from  where the forefathers of His Excellency Barr Mba moved to Owo (same time when people of Amechi Idodo left Amechi Awkunanaw for Idodo)and that their blood brother couldnt have made up a plan to create homelessness for them after blessing and voting for him.

 The protesting group said the land grabbings  going on around their place have been the handiworks of some Awkunanaw people who are hiding but dropping the names of the Governor. The people said that they will still take the case to Ani Awkunananaw,Ani Akegbe and Ugwunchi Umuatugbuoma (dieties) since those who unjustifiably  sell lands are sold by the land.

The spokesman,Chief Ogbodo,lamented that they have no other place to live or build new homes since Enugu  Mechanic Village,Rangers Estate Phase One and Phase Two are all on Umuatugbuoma lands.He said that their place, Akegbe Ward Two,gave the highest number of votes to Gov Mba in the zone and vowed to always support their son.

The people finally called on the Governor to protect their interest and caution greedy and overzealous people of Awkunanaw to allow to reign.

  The Leader of Labour Party in Enugu West Dr John Okechukwu Nwokebia has Commended the Labour Party faithful over their Conduct in yesterday's Local government Council Election in Enugu State.
