ENUGU STATE MINISTRY OF TRANSPORT WARNS AGAINST THE DISSEMINATION OF UNVERIFIED CONTENT
The Enugu State Ministry of Transport has expressed concern over the growing trend of motorists and some members of the public exploiting traffic enforcement incidents to create misleading and sensational content for social media.
Speaking to journalists in his office yesterday, the Commander of the Enugu State Traffic Management Authority (ESTMA), Kenneth Aniebonam Ugwu, said the Ministry has observed an increasing number of videos being circulated online without proper context or verification. He noted that such content often misrepresents the actions of traffic management officials, fuels misinformation, and undermines the efforts of the Ministry to improve traffic management and public safety across Enugu State.
The Commander cautioned motorists, content creators, bloggers, and other social media users against publishing or sharing unverified information solely to generate viral content or public outrage. He stressed that individuals should always verify the facts surrounding any incident before making it public, as the deliberate spread of false or misleading information can damage reputations, incite unnecessary tension, and obstruct the lawful discharge of official duties.
Commander Kenneth Aniebonam Ugwu further warned that anyone found deliberately producing or circulating false, misleading, or malicious content intended to discredit the Ministry or its officials will be investigated and, where appropriate, prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and urged members of the public to report any genuine cases of misconduct through the appropriate official channels rather than resorting to misinformation or social media sensationalism.
