More facts have emerged on the suspension of a primary school Head at Community Primary School, Umunze, Orumba South Council of Anambra State. She was accused by the Anambra State Government through the Commissioner of of Education, Prof Ngozi Chuma-Udeh of allowing political program on her school premises, before closing hours.
Journalists who visited the scene ran into the Orumba South Council chairman, Shedrack Azubike leading a group of heavily armed security men and boys who ransacked the area attacking any adult in sight.
They pulled down the canopies, plastic tables and chairs being set up by those engaged to get the arena ready for an event for later in the evening.
Spirited efforts to explain to him that the event was slated for a 4pm rally made no difference, as he was visibly determined to make a statement in stopping whatever program that was planned to hold. He really instilled fears in the natives and passers-by with the intimidating number of guns by the security men he came with.
Attempts by journalists to take video and photos were prevented by the
security agents.
They event planners told journalists that that their company had four other venues to arrange that same day.
So they chose to start early to arrange the venues one after another as the bookings overstretched their resources and manpower.
One of the boys from the event planners' company who gave his name simply as "Ejike" said they were really shaken when the chairman invaded the primary school field pulling down canopies, kicking some of the already arranged chairs and tables. He claimed that most of his assistants ran for their lives. The drama attracted a crowd of onlookers who were driving past but had to stop.
As the news of the confusion spread in minutes into the communities around and Umunze market, parents rushed in to pick their children and wards.
Ejike said it was until some journalists who went to Owerre-Ezukala cave saw the crowd and stopped. The Council boss and his men stopped them from recording photos and videos of the event.
They quickly contacted the State's Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugo who was not happy with the development. He expressed displeasure with Azubike's actions and demanded his withdrawal of all police, armed men and thugs from the scene. He also charged him to tender a written public apology for his conduct, as it was not necessary at all .
Soldiers quickly arrived the scene and peace was restored while injured persons were taken to nearby chemist for first aid.
Thereafter at about 4pm the APC members kickstarted the rally apparently oblivious of the initial skirmishes.
The State Commissionerof Police, our investigation revealed mobilized his men who restored normalcy while the school authority sent all the children home abruptly.
Reacting to the crisis when journalists visited his office, Azubike said he went to stop the campaign rally "to save the school pupils from the noise pollution coming from the public address system".
He was asked why he went to the classrooms to bring out the pupils, took photographs and video recorded them.
Also, when confronted with what the event planners said that the rally was fixed for 4pm. He said he was not aware of that.
Sadly, the narrative he gave the State Government elicited the suspension of the headmistress whose premises was the source the
controversy.
But when contacted on the crisis, the governorship candidate of the APC, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu appealed for calm, peace, understanding and good neighborliness. He bemoaned the situation, urging citizens to vote out all the rabble-rousers and Gov Chukwuma Soludo for falling far short of expectations.
He said that his presence on the ballot paper for the Nov 8 election has given Anambra citizens a viable option. He appealed to all eligible voters to troop out on Nov 8 to vote APC for a positive transformation
