Amankanu: A Response to Baseless Allegations

Image
By  Chief Ekene Ekpete's  Media Aid Chidi Eze  On behalf of our principal, Chief Ekene Ekpete, we are compelled to respond to the malicious and baseless allegations leveled against him and the Executive Chairman of Aninri Local Government, Hon. Ugochukwu Nwanjoku. In the face of these frivolous publications, we must set the record straight and expose the antics of those behind this orchestrated campaign of calumny. The allegation that Chief Ekene Ekpete bribed the local government Chairman or any other individual to become Igwe is utterly preposterous and an affront to the values of our community. Given his family's history with the chieftaincy title rooted in tradition and community recognition, the notion of bribery is absurd. Chief Ekene Ekpete's father, Chief Innocent Okorie  Ekpete, was handed the staff of authority by the people of Umuoro on December 7th, 2017, to serve as Igwe. While Chief Ekene Ekpete may not see eye-to-eye with the local government Chairman ...

SUBJECT: IMPORTANT UPDATE AND CALL FOR CAUTION FROM THE LABOUR PARTY/OBIDIENTS IN ENUGU STATE

Image
Dear Esteemed Labour Party Faithful and Obidients, I am writing to address recent developments and clarify our position regarding the coalition movement in Enugu State. I understand the eagerness for information and the frustration that can arise from a vacuum, which often allows misinformation to flourish. It is a natural consequence of a dynamic political environment, and it is crucial that we remain united and well-informed. Positive progress is being made within our coalition with the ADC party. However, as is common in such alliances, opposing forces are actively spreading false narratives to sow confusion and division. I have had reason to speak with you in the past about our relationship with this coalition, and I am doing so again to provide clarity and reaffirm our strategic direction. Let me be unequivocal: the guiding principles and instructions from our principal, *His Excellency Peter Obi*, have not changed. Our primary mandate remains to continue growing and consolidating...

Rushing to Regret: The Alarming State of Projects in Enugu

Image
By Hon. Omeje Nnamdi As one travels around Enugu State, numerous ongoing projects are visible, especially within the metropolis. However, a pertinent question arises: why the rush? Why engage in over 200 projects simultaneously without proper monitoring? Many Enugu residents commend the governor's efforts to make Enugu State great again, but we wonder about the haste. The selection process for contractors handling these projects also raises concerns, as it appears that due process was not followed. We doubt whether His Excellency, the governor, approves of such contractors managing projects in this manner. Based on the ongoing works, we can categorically state that at least 70% of the projects in Enugu may not last more than two years. We urge His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, to instruct the Ministry of Works to fulfill its responsibilities or establish a monitoring team to supervise the ongoing projects before it's too late. The resources being utilized are taxpayers...

It was highlighted that all the initial facade of the incumbent Gov Chukwuma Soludo in trying to whittle down the sagacity, prominence and attendance of opposing gubernatorial candidates and parties events was betrayed weekend by the outrageous multitude that greeted the two events of the APC Saturday, in Awka. This was irrespective of simultaneous rally by Soludo's All Progressives Congress Grand Alliance (APGA), at earshot distant locations away, in Awka. Moreso, what looked like a signpost of things to come at the November 8,2025 governorship poll manif...

Image
Enugu, Nigeria – July 21, 2025 Amid rising political realignments and growing anticipation ahead of the 2027 general elections, influential stakeholders across Enugu State have begun mounting pressure on Dr. John Nwokeabia to declare his intention to run for governor under the Labour Party. Dr. Nwokeabia, a respected technocrat and former deputy governorship candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, has continued to demonstrate unwavering commitment to the party and its ideals, even in the face of shifting political tides. His loyalty and sustained investment in the party have earned him admiration from across the state’s three senatorial zones. Following the unexpected defection of the Labour Party’s 2023 gubernatorial candidate, Hon. Chijioke Edeoga, to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) earlier this year, many party loyalists feared the party’s structure in Enugu would suffer a collapse. However, Dr. Nwokeabia in concert with other stakeholders—financially, ...

Setting the Record Straight: The Amankanu Royal Tussle

Image
The recent publication about the chieftaincy rift which claimed to have come from Umuoro Kindred has sparked controversy over the traditional leadership tussle in Amankanu, Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State. However, a closer examination of the facts reveals that Uhuogwudu is the rightful kindred to produce the next Igwe. In 2016, Amankanu gained autonomy, and the community drafted a constitution outlining a rotational leadership structure between Group A and Group B. Group A comprises Umuoro, Uhuogwudu, Umuanikwu, and Uhuobia, while Group B consists of Umuokogu, Umuogo, Umunakpu, Uhuoro, and Umuoduhu. According to the constitution, the kingship rotates according to seniority, with Umuoro being the eldest kindred in Group A. However, when after more than a year, Umuoro failed to produce a king within the stipulated timeframe of six months, the right was transferred to Uhuogwudu, the second in line of seniority in Group A, in accordance with the constitution. This transfer was...
