Gun totting night marauders invade Anaocha Council Hq

From Chuks Collins,  Awka March 28,2024  ...... burn down Div Police Hq, LG Secretariat   Some hoodlums said to number about 30, according to eye witnesses invaded the Neni community,  headquarters of Anaocha Local government.  The hoodlums were said to have set the Divisional Police Headquarters there ablaze. They also torched the nearby Anaocha Council secretariat which stood adjacent the Divisional police Headquarters, Neni.  The gangsters said to be very armed with assorted deadly weapons  stormed the area around 3am today  (Thursday).  They made a noisy entrance shouting,  “DPO must go. He has overstayed. He has stayed in Anaocha for over 15 years.” Another source said they whisked away some police officers including female personnel at the station. LP Crisis: Lamidi Apapa faction drags Julius Abure, others to court over 'sham' convention

  From Chuks Collins, Awka March 27,2024 .... suit fixed for April 4 The Alh Lamidi Apapa faction of the Labour Party (LP) has described the ongoing national convention  of the party today at the Grand Seasons Hotels, Nnewi, Anambra State as a sham.  According to the Anambra State faction of the party, Peter Okoye, "this is not a Convention, okay.  "We are on top of the matter.  "It's pure illegal.  "There was no Ward Congress, no Local Government Congresses ,no State Congress, and now who and who elected the delegates that is Electing the NWC members ? "The NLC is not there, TUC is not there ,,the owners of the party and members of the NEC and BOT members we're not there too.", the state factional chairman noted.  According to Okoye, "The matter is coming up on 4th of April 2024 for hearing."

  From Chuks Collins, Awka March 27,2023 fears high for opponents, their apologists The ongoing National Convention of the Labour Party (LP) holding at the Grand Seasons Hotel, Nnewi Anambra state has witnessed a disturbing trend with the barring broad spectrum of the media from entering the venue.   The move, observers pointed out was unbecoming and inexplicable as their National Publicity Secretary, one Obiorah Ifoh had gone inside early morning. Series of calls and messages were sent to him urging him to approach the front desk with the necessary tags with him but for more than three and half hours he didn't show up.   However, no fewer than five hoodlums said to be distributing inciting leaflets critical of the party leadership we're arrested and whisked to the police headquarters.  The youngmen  who were accused of trying to cause distress to the ongoing convention have been moved out of the venue.  A party source say the intention of the boy...

Philanthropist shortlists 70 beneficiaries for 2024 scholarship

From Chuks Collins, Awka .... .. list drawn from Seven Anambra  communities March 11,2024  A well known philanthropist and community leader,  Chief Uzoma Igbonwa, has concluded plans to sponsor another set of seventy (70) indigent and handicapped students for 2024 academic session in any tertiary institutions in Nigeria.  The list comprised of ten(10) beneficiaries from each of the seven communities in his Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.  The benefactor,  Chief Igbonwa's good works and passion for the less privileged have gained national and international attention over the years. Mounting debt/ Poverty profile, Unemployment: Group fingers CSOs, Planning Officers, Banks policies

  From Chuks Collins, Awka March 6,2014 A non-governmental Organization(NGO) -the Civil Rights Concern (CRC) has taken found a correlation between the increasing mass unemployment, high debt profile and widespread poverty in Anambra State to Planning officers, bank policies and Civil Societies Organizations.  Also, the CRC noted that key stakeholders and citizens have not lived up to their duties in monitoring actively what governments at various levels do with funds, especially the series of huge loans they have been taking.  CRC, in an engagement seminar with Stakeholders including media practitioners in Awka,  Anambra State, her Executive Director (ED) Mr Okey Onyeka harped on the need to find a lasting solution to the hydra headed issue of unemployment, increasing debt profile and increasing poverty in the country in general and South East in particular.
